Thiruvananthapuram: Faced with local disputes over buying granites for the construction of piers for the Vizinjam International Seaport, the Adani Group has decided to use steel instead of granites.

The company has discussed the matter with the state government and the Ports Department.

The construction of the pier (Pulimuttu) along 600 metres has been completed using granite and the remaining part will be built using steel. It is learnt that an agreement has been reached with a Switzerland-based company for the purpose.

There have been several disputes over supplying granites. A lot of stone quarries in the region may have to incur loss if the new construction plan is implemented.
