German hotel operator Deutsche Hospitality is set to open its second InterCityHotel in Oman by 2020, located in the sultanate’s capital city.

The deal was signed with Muscat National Development and Investment Company (ASAAS) to build a hotel that will comprise 285 rooms, including 12 suites set across six floors, with a restaurant and bar, Hotelier Middle East reported.

Puneet Chhatwal, ceo, Deutsche Hospitality, said: “The Middle East is a significant destination, both for leisure tourism and business travellers. It is a part of the world where Deutsche Hospitality is outstandingly well placed.

“Signing the agreement for the new IntercityHotel means that our portfolio will boast two hotels from this brand in an important growth region. There will also be a further IntercityHotel in Dubai in 2018.”

Deutche Hospitality opened its first InterCityHotel in Salalah in 2016 as part of German hotel brand Steigenberger’s continuing expansion across the Middle East.

The Salalah branch was the first InterCityHotel to open outside of Europe, offering 70 rooms as well as a restaurant and gym in what is the first mid-market hotel in the city.

Chhatwal added that Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts is planning on opening a hotel in Qatar by 2018, following the successful launch of the Steigenberger Hotel Business Bay in Dubai in 2015.
